Sewing Skills - Beginners, Improve and Creators 
Whether you are a beginner and looking to improve your sewing skills we have a range of sewing sessions suited to getting the best out of your sewing machine.
Sewing for Beginners

About the Course

If you have never sewn or used a sewing machine before and really want to learn or just give it a go, then this short, 1-day course is specially designed for you!

Learn how to set up the sewing machine, use its functions and practice sewing to build up confidence. You will also learn about the various feet and attachments and all the creative things you can do with your sewing machine.​

This is a beginner’s class so if you have no sewing experience at all don’t worry as this is what we are here to teach you.

On this course you will:
* Learn how to set up and thread a sewing machine
* Basic trouble shooting of the sewing machine
* Sew in a straight line keeping within the seam allowance
* Learn how to zig-zag to neaten raw fabric edges
* Learn about various machine feet and what else a sewing
machine can do

What will you need to bring

We will provide you with fabric and materials so you don’t need to bring anything with you other than yourself and a willingness to learn.

Feel free to bring your own sewing kit if you wish. You can also bring your own sewing machine to practice on. (Machines must be less than 3 years old and in good working condition, some machines will not be allowed to be used in the workroom if deemed unsafe)

You will also be introduced to the over locker and will use this in this session.

Improve your Sewing Skills 

About the Course

So you can use the sewing machine but now need to know a little more about techniques and what else you can do with it. This 1-day course can show you lots of techniques that can move you forward.

 

You will learn more about the various feet and how to use then, from pin-tuck, rolled hem, blind hem and embroidery.  You will learn how to correctly insert a zip, top stitch and edge stitch plus other sewing techniques.

This is an improvers class for those how have some sewing knowledge but want to brush up on their technics.

 


On this course you will:
* Learn how to use a variety of special sewing machine feet
* Learn how to insert zips
*Perfect the precision of sewing techniques such as tops stitching and edge stitching

* Create free style sewing with machine freestyle embroidery
 

What will you need to bring

We will provide you with fabric and materials so you don’t need to bring anything with you other than yourself and a willingness to learn.

Feel free to bring your own sewing kit if you wish. You can also bring your own sewing machine to practice on. (Machines must be less than 3 years old and in good working condition, some machines will not be allowed to be used in the workroom if deemed unsafe)

Sewing for Creators 

About the Course

These session are good for Design student and for the creative minded with the ideas but just need to know the "know how" this session is for you. In these sessions you will bring your idea to the table and we will work together to fine tune the specifics.

 

Learn techniques to bring your idea to life, whether is be a garment, a fashion accessory, decoration textiles or a piece of soft furnishing, you choose.

These sessions are tailor made around you so you choose how much time you need to get your project going.

 

Ideas of projects

Design and make a Garment (specific techniques for individual design)

Creative Textiles - Free motion embroidery

Costume making

Soft Toy making

Cushion making

Bag making*

... and more, let discuss it


This is an improvers session for those how have some sewing knowledge but want to brush up on their techniques.

What you will need to bring

You will get the expertise of an experienced Fashion, Design and Technology teacher with the skills and knowledge of many years working in industry and teaching.

You will have the use of sewing machines and tools used in industry.

Feel free to bring your own sewing kit if you wish. You can also bring your own sewing machine to practice on. (Machines must be less than 3 years old and in good working condition, some machines will not be allowed to be used in the workroom if deemed unsafe)
